ACTA EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE

"Protecting the Public Network in a Privatized Part 68 Environment: What the Telecom Industry Needs to Know"

ACTA was established to assume responsibilities privatized by the FCC. This three-day premier conference will feature representatives from the FCC, Industry Canada, European Commission, Industry Expertst, Standards Developers , and members of the Administrative Council.

  The telecommunications industry has seen dramatic changes the past year with continued deregulation, privatization of certain federal duties and responsibilities, reorganization of the FCC, and increased focus on telecom security. This session will provide valuable insight into the strategic perspective of the Commission in light of all these changes.

10:30-11:15 a.m. Regulatory Rules for Terminal Approval: The FCC's Role and Function
  The privatization of certain FCC responsibilities last year has altered the US regulatory system for terminal equipment intended for connection to the public network. This session will highlight the industry's obligations and the FCC's role under the new regulatory system.

Privatization of Terminal Approval
1:30-2:15 p.m. Plugging into the Administrative Council for Terminal Attachments: Inside the ACTA
  The ACTA was established to assume responsibilities privatized by the FCC. In this session, members of the ACTA will provide an in-depth description of the Council's role, duties, and responsibilities related to the adoption of technical criteria for terminal approval and network protection.

  This session will help chart the differences and similarities between the two recognized methods for approving terminal equipment, by outlining the procedures associated with a Supplier's Declaration of Conformity (SDoC) and those utilizing a Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB).

  Terminal equipment connected to the public network must comply with specific requirements. This session will outline the technical rules retained by the FCC after privatization and the ACTA-adopted technical criteria for terminal approval.

  This session will outline the recently ACTA-adopted requirements for consumer xDSL-capable equipment supporting technologies such as ADSL, SHDSL, HDSL2, and HDSL4.

This session will outline Industry Canada's requirements for terminal approval and network protection.

  In this session, Administrative Council members will outline requirements for reporting approved terminals, the various types of notifications to file, and the use of the ACTA vs. FCC-registration labels.
